Our story begins in 1964 in Isola d’Ishcia, Italy, where Guiseppe Di Meglio and his family started building themselves a beautifully constructed home from the ground up. Only 17, he already had six years in the building trade and had developed his firmly-held belief to do things the right way, the first time, to ensure lasting results.
When Guiseppe set up his own construction company in Vancouver, he was already well-known in the local industry for his integrity, work ethic and high standards. His son, Joele, was introduced to the building site at age eight, learning the ropes and eventually apprenticing under Guiseppe.
Joele worked many years with his father, acquiring his master craftsmanship. In 2010 Joele struck out on his own, building upon what his father had started and shifting the business to be more customer centric.
Guiseppe’s values still hold true on every single job site: An uncompromising commitment to craftsmanship means there are no shortcuts. Honesty is the best policy. Dedication to hard work, while getting the job done right.

For many years our company worked in Greater Vancouver under the name Di Meglio Construction Ltd. and DMC. In 2017 we rebranded as NOVERO Homes and Renovations.
Regrettably, many businesses appear to be in our industry for the wrong reasons. We hear too many unfortunate stories from clients about past experiences, and we’ve definitely come across an unbelievable amount of shoddy work.
“Novero” means “group” in Italian. This reflects the growth of the company, expanding beyond Joele and his father. NOVERO’s team is a strong, diverse group of trades, skills and value-added services. In Latin the root “nov” means “new”. With a renewed focus on our service offering, NOVERO is committed to raising the reputation of the home construction industry in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, especially in our key areas of workmanship, integrity and customer service.

When Joele could hold a hammer, his father brought him onto the building sites. On Saturdays he would pack lumber, clean the 2x4s and stack it in a clean pile under the watchful eye of his dad. As a teenager, he would go straight onto a work site after school, apprenticing in carpentry and residential framing. Joele worked closely under his father for 12 years, before taking a break and working in landscaping. He returned to his roots soon after, founding his own construction company and following in his father’s footsteps.
Joele brings the strong DiMeglio work ethic to the operational side of the business. He strives to build trust with clients by being completely transparent, proactive and hands on. He focuses on offering the highest level of communication for every single client and building strong relationships.
Suzanne officially joined the team in 2017, working directly with clients from a service perspective. With a background of over 15 years in media and sales, and an education in Business and Marketing, Suzanne has ample experience working with customers looking to stand out above the rest. Hardworking and open, she earned a reputation for listening closely to her clients’ needs and delivering on time, within budget.
A major reno on her own home sparked a passion for interior design. She developed a deep knowledge of home finishing materials, and combined this with an understanding of how to source and shop. Suzanne now shares this passion with NOVERO clients who require design assistance. She adores helping clients realize their dream living space, determining the best materials to suit the family’s needs and lifestyle. And she keeps suppliers on track, with a close eye on timelines.
Joe’s extensive experience in the hands-on aspects of construction incredibly spans almost 60 years and two countries. He began his apprenticeship at age 11 under a local builder in his town. Instead of continuing with school Joe entered the trade full time and by the age of 13, was supervising two labourers. At 17, he built his first large-scale custom home – his family’s home – from the ground up with concrete rocks and blocks.
Moving to Montreal to work in the construction boom around Expo 67, Joe added landscaping to his skillset. Relocating his young family in Vancouver, he worked for over a decade with Artuso Brothers as Lead Carpenter building large complex projects before striking out on his own.
Joe understands everything going on across the site at all times. His ferocious work ethic carries over to the rest of the team, instilling efficiency, integrity and mental toughness.
Matt specializes in carpentry and millwork, building residential structures from scratch. A graduate of the unique Heritage Carpentry and Joinery program in Ontario, Matt gained hands-on knowledge of preservation, renovation and restoration of historical architecture. This program focussed on producing high-quality work, a perfect fit for NOVERO’s strict standards.
In addition, Matt has worked in finishing carpentry, exterior sliding, deck building and framing. At Sashmasters, a heritage window and door restoration specialist, he gained valuable knowledge in the repair, construction and installation of wood windows, doors and mouldings. Matt’s talents extend to the kitchen, where he has a passion for cooking and whipping up an amazing meal.
Merle first arrived on one of our work sites as a subcontractor. His work caught Joe’s eye, and after much scrutiny, Merle passed the test. When Joe suggests that we hire someone who meets his strict standards, we listen.
Like many in the industry, Merle has learned and honed his skills on-site from other highly experienced tradespeople. Possessing a knack for finding people who excel at what they do, Merle will absorb everything that person can teach him, and then apply it. Home Inspection and BC Building Code courses have rounded out his skill set, enabling him to better understand what building authorities expect from the industry, and he includes this knowledge in his work at NOVERO.
Merle’s career highlights include stripping a 100-year-old house down to the studs, then breathing new life into it; acting as foreman on a 20-story tower; running large crews on big commercial sites; and working for himself for six years. Merle excels in his role as site supervisor, with thanks to his friendly and adaptable personality. Clients find him very approachable, customer-focussed and always available for questions.
Born Victoria, BC, Norm grew up in Hamilton, ON, and lived in Toronto before returning to BC.
Drawn to construction and design, Norm held an early ambition to be an architect but life led to other adventures such as extensive travel in Europe and living in Japan. Construction became his career in 2004, and he has been working as a skilled trade ever since.
Like the rest of the NOVERO team, Norm strives to continually produce high-quality work and is committed to putting the customer first.
Norm holds a passion for all things art, especially literature and music. He still loves to travel whenever possible.
Chris is responsible for calculating the cost of a project including labour, trades, and material costs. This includes reviewing quotations from suppliers, as well as working with each project’s team on budgeting and cost control. Chris has hands-on experience in construction as a roofer and an HVAC technician. He also spent four years as a telecommunications technician and multi-dwelling unit designer for fibre optic cable systems. This field experience, his strong knowledge of building materials, and his business background, make Chris a welcome addition to the NOVERO team.
Fun fact: Chris is a fully trained and certified firefighter. During fire training, he learned extensively about building materials and building codes, which is particularly valuable in our design-build projects.
During the winter months you’ll find Chris playing hockey. When summer appears, Chris trades his ice time for time on the water, boating with his family and friends.
Erica has worked as an office administrator in a range of industries since 1997, including real estate development, home inspections, shipping/receiving and graphic design. This varied experience has helped her fine-tune her office and efficiency skills to our considerable benefit.
Easily the most efficient member of our group, Erica leads the charge on the organization front, and is always ready to assist with a positive attitude, fantastic competency and professionalism. She has a love for home design, wine and all things Christmas.
Vanessa joins NOVERO with over 10 years of administrative experience within the home inspection industry. Her friendly approach and passion for customer service makes her a great fit for our team. One of her favourite parts is meeting new clients and taking them through the project process—we promise that Vanessa will strive to answer all of your questions, and if she doesn’t know the answer, she’ll find out for you.
When her son is fast asleep, Vanessa relaxes by catching up on home design trends on Instagram and pinning ideas on Pinterest for her future kitchen. She has become “slightly obsessed with countertops”, which is a pretty good sign that she has become one of us!
Chad comes to NOVERO with over 10 years of experience in accounting. He has worked various industries such as construction, retail, and corporate home improvement supply chain. With his years of expertise and broad industry experience, Chad is able to provide the team with compelling reports and financial analysis.
When not in the office, Chad can be found golfing or travelling.
