We’ve been long-time fans of Jean Stoffer’s work. If you look closely through our blog, you’ll find her projects featured throughout—especially her fabulous kitchen, bathroom, and millwork designs. If you’re not familiar with her work, keep scrolling to see why!
Jean Stoffer is renowned for masterfully blending classic elements with modern functionality, creating spaces that feel both timeless and contemporary. Initially gaining national recognition for her unique and timeless kitchens, her expertise now includes elegant and approachable designs for the entire home.
Her design work is characterized by a careful attention to detail, respect for classic architecture, and a genuine interest in her clients’ needs and lifestyles. Her firm, Jean Stoffer Design based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has received numerous design awards and is regularly featured in magazines.
Jean Stoffer has also gained visibility through her television show, “The Established Home,” on the Magnolia Network, which showcases her design projects and family dynamics, as well as the book she wrote about her journey in becoming a designer, Establishing Home. Despite all this acclaim, the firm still takes on a range of interesting projects and sizes including a 1930s log cabin (seen above), a quaint English-style cottage, and a carriage house.
The Jean Stoffer Kitchen
Her kitchen designs are celebrated for several distinctive qualities such as:
1 / British inspiration – heavy influence especially by British kitchen aesthetics, featuring rich colors and simple yet elegant lines.
2 / Material mix – designs often feature a distinctive combination of materials, textures, finishes, and colours, creating visually interesting and harmonious spaces.
3 / Flush inset cabinetry – a hallmark of Stoffer kitchens is the use of flush inset cabinetry, where doors and drawers are inset into the cabinet frame. This historical home detail adds a refined, high-quality look to her designs.
4 / Incredible attention to detail – Stoffer is known for her meticulous attention to detail, carefully considering every aspect of the kitchen’s design and functionality.
5 / Respecting architectural integrity – her approach respects the classic architecture of a home while incorporating modern elements, resulting in kitchens that feel cohesive with the overall house design.
In addition to her kitchens, we also love her bathroom designs which reflect the same timeless, elegant, and functional aesthetic. Stoffer often uses calming, nature-inspired colours and natural materials in bathrooms, resulting in a cultivated and calming space.
Stoffer Home
In 2018 Jean opened a large home retail store called Stoffer Home in Grand Rapids, which also operates online (shipping most of its wares to Canada, FYI). Soon after she launched Stoffer Home Cabinetry, the line reflecting her signature look and passion for English-inspired kitchens.
All in the Family
Jean’s family plays a significant role in her business. Her daughter, Grace Start, is her key design partner, and her son, John Stoffer, handles photography and marketing. Her other children and husband are also involved in various aspects of the business.
