PROJECT DETAILS
The design brief for this Vancouver townhouse kitchen remodel included creating a minimalist look with Japandi-style influences. Our clients sought simplicity, natural materials, and comfort (also known as hygge) in their open plan kitchen.
After previously suffering flood damage, the homeowners regretted not fully updating the kitchen during the restoration. They also wanted the well-used kitchen and living area to be more streamlined, functional, and light-filled for their needs.
NOVERO Homes expanded the length of the L-shaped kitchen to take advantage of an underutilized area connecting to the living room, acquiring room for an appliance garage, beverage fridge, and larger kitchen island.
The extension additionally recovered precious space from a reduction in upper cabinet size due to the drop ceiling. By moving up and shortening the uppers to raise the sightline, the sense of spaciousness increases—and put the focus on the beautiful full-height quartz backsplash. The strategic addition of pot lights further illuminates the kitchen in the evening.
Our favourite feature in this project is the kitchen island. The waterfall edge and vertical slat design anchors the modernized kitchen, and the materials reflect the perimeter finishes of rift-cut white oak and veined quartz. The streamlined look is achieved with integrated appliances blending seamlessly with the cabinetry. Our last challenge for this renovation was to attain the perfect stain colour for the oak to successfully warm up the space while working with the cool grey tones of the existing flooring.
