By including the in-law suite in this custom home’s initial design-build plans, this family was able to create the ideal retirement residence. A separate entry and outdoor space allow for full privacy and independence from the main house while maintaining close proximity to the rest of the family. The in-laws sought a comfortable home for hosting extended family gatherings while allowing them to age in place.
Universal design elements are incorporated to keep spaces easy to use and flexible for all life stages, e.g. walk-in shower and spacious living areas. Plenty of storage is built into every room to keep it clutter-free, including a walk-in pantry and custom-made hutch with decorative glass doors and shelves for display.
The timeless, traditionally-styled home leans on elegant design details and vintage-touch fixtures like the lantern pendants, faucets, marbled tiles, and faux crystal knobs. A consistently serene colour palette is applied throughout with soft hues of light grey, taupe, and classic white complemented by brushed nickel finishes.
The all-white kitchen seamlessly blends into the open-concept space and is anchored by the kitchen island, topped in a soft Bianco Gioia quartz and contrasting charcoal grey cabinetry. Both bathrooms are tiled in elegant marble-look porcelain which is lower maintenance (and cost) than stone.
