A classic empty nester situation combined with working from home during COVID meant our clients were seeking a home that better fit their lifestyle changes. Besides a home office space, the couple wanted a brighter, contemporary open concept that better suited entertaining, as well as a luxurious master bathroom.

Multiple paint colours and flooring types made the original home feel choppy. A cohesive flow is achieved by installing luxury vinyl plank throughout the home (except bathrooms) and using a consistent colour scheme in a calming neutral palette. By removing a substantial living room fireplace wall, we create a spacious kitchen featuring a dining island and walk-in pantry. The kitchen - now a crisp white - features bright surfaces, modern fixtures, and a sophisticated dining environment. There’s plenty of room for entertaining and the homeowners are able to easily converse with guests in the adjoining family and living rooms.

We updated the remaining fireplace to gas, adding an asymmetrical surround of oversized 16x48 earthy tiles and a stained oak mantel. The spa bathroom is realized through a natural palette, warm textures, walk-in shower, and elegant fixtures. Custom medicine cabinets and a matching oak vanity hide bathroom clutter. Finally, the staircase is modernized with a new black balustrade. The streamlined metal spindles and flat handrail contrast with the light grey floors, making a striking statement in the home’s entry.
