This week marked the first week of Spring and we couldn’t be happier. The trees are starting to blossom, the air is (slightly) less cool and Spring Kitchen inspo is popping up everywhere in our Pinterest feed. When we build custom kitchens for our clients, there are many factors that come into play when aiming to achieve a certain look and feel.

Today, we’re going to break down the Spring Kitchen and 5 Ways to get the Look.

1. Open Shelving

Nothing says Spring Kitchen like exposed but meticulously styled shelving. In recent years, we’ve noticed our clients not wanting a kitchen of wall-to-wall uppers, but rather mix between open shelving and enclosed. We love the idea of a little section of the kitchen to display platters and vases, but also for the utilitarian purpose of stashing your go-to plates and bowls for easy reach.

2. A Place for Greenery

Spring is literally when all the trees and flowers are in bloom. So a Spring Kitchen MUST evoke that spirit and greens are an absolute must (whether real or fake). It’s important to factor this in when designing your kitchen by dedicating a space for your fresh herbs and favourite plants. It could be as simple as a deep ledge of a window sill or an elevated shelf  (to not impede your view). Short on space? Look into wall planters and vertical gardens.

3. Earthy Tones

A Spring Kitchen is all about bringing elements of the outside in. Wooden details, such as hardware bring the spirit of the surrounding trees to your fingertips. Natural stone countertops bring a sense of balance to the space and earthenware accents add beauty and warmth.

4. Natural Light

This goes without saying but we wanted to touch on a few things when it comes to bringing natural light into your Spring Kitchen. If your space lacks it, find ways to flood it in from another space. Maybe you add a door with a window, or a mirror to reflect it. The key is to find the light source and redirect it to where you want it to go.

Also, friendly reminder, those windows could probably use a clean right about now!

5. Vintage Touches

Springtime is when garage sale season is at its peak. Whimsical details in the form of vintage finds is a perfect way to bring life to a Spring Kitchen in need of some character. Whether its a light fixture you found at an estate sale over the weekend or sweet family heirlooms you’ve been meaning to put out, it’s all about creating a welcoming space that’s full of stories to tell.
