This special Langley home remodel was a design-only project for two families connected to one of our talented team members. Looking to put down roots in an area with room for growth, and with their backgrounds in building, real estate, and DIY renovations, Cody and his brother pooled their resources in finding and developing a property. They settled on a ¾-acre wooded lot with a creek, a 1950s house to renovate (phase one), and room to build a second house (phase two). Cody’s experience in estimating, project management, demo, framing and finishing, meant he & his family would take a hands-on approach to their projects after going through the design process with NOVERO.
Our goal was to design a family-oriented, comfortable, and cozy home. In true farmhouse style, the main’s open plan encourages communal living and accommodates both families while the second house is being built. A harmonious balance of contemporary and timeless is achieved with special attention to warm, inviting details.
The elegant modern farmhouse kitchen is designed for cooking and gathering, featuring a substantial white oak kitchen island, full-height quartz backsplash, and 2-¼”” bead shaker cabinetry. Additional aesthetic details include statement lighting, brass hardware, and a beautiful bridge faucet to complete the farmhouse sink. The mostly white scheme brightens up the entire living space, and is warmed by wood accents such as the island, pantry wall, exposed beam, and rustic farmhouse table.
The warm and welcoming living room is anchored by a dramatic concrete fireplace surround and built-ins echoing the kitchen cabinetry. Distinct modern farmhouse touches to the interior include new stair rails, wall molding, and a highly functional mudroom with cubbies, coat hooks and storage benches. Character and charm are brought to the laundry room by adding deep green beadboard wainscoting and new vanity. Oak vinyl plank flooring lightens and creates a cohesive flow throughout the home.
