Having previously remodeled the kitchen, entry, and powder room of this young family’s Port Moody home, this time we turned our attention up the stairs to the main bedroom, ensuite, and kids’ bath. These updates feel equally fresh and timeless.

Light oak cabinetry and white surfaces keep the ensuite bath bright, while the contrasting black matte hardware and fixtures bring it to life. We included lots of texture and dimension by incorporating different materials such as polished quartz countertops, matte patterned floor tiles, and glossy wall tiles with an imperfect handmade appearance. Details like the open wood shelves in the wall niche, the full-width shower niche, custom black-framed mirror, and pop of brass on the wall sconces add interest. The larger walk-in shower was accommodated by capturing part of a closet on the other side of the wall.

The kids' bathroom gives off a more casual, cottage vibe with soft grey cabinetry and a shiplap wall treatment. Board and batten wall panels in the stairwell and in the main bedroom inject interest to large expanses of wall. Adding an oversized rattan pendant from the lofted bedroom ceiling keeps the look laid-back. Finally, installing maple wood engineered floors on the upper floor and stair treads ties in with the main floor, increasing the warmth of this modern oasis.
